Started my internship Tuesday and I can’t disclose much about it.  Seriously. In my first two days I was sat down 3 times, by 3 different people to stress confidentiality.  Our program’s director briefing makes an even 4.  I get it… keep tight lips.  I also understand the importance of this.  While DC is a big city, capitol hill sure isn’t.

Overall I’m loving the new gig.  I have a great office, working for a great Senator.

Speaking of the State of the Union.  I loved it.  I typically support democratic ideals, especially lately.  But when it comes down to it, I like to think I support the right ideals.  One thing I feel strongly about is biparisanship.  Look how poorly partisanship in our country is working.  President Obama made a point that we shouldn’t need a Super-Majority to accomplish anything in this system, and that is exactly how the Republicans are acting.  I’m on the same page as the president when it comes to uniting the parties to get things accomplished.  Politicians are too worried about their party and re-election rather than working towards getting their constituents what they need.  A straight party vote, like the one we had during the heath care debate, is complete bull-shit.  The Republican’s stubbornness is screwing us all.  Obama should and will try to unite the two parties to achieve heath care reform.

Our Commander in Chief also outlined a lot of his plans for the next few years.  I really liked what I heard.  Stress on alternative energy.  It’s not just important for jobs but we also need to push to be the leader in the field.  Obama understands this.  I think I like his reinstallation of PAYGO, but that’s something I’m not quite sure about.  He even mentioned the Army’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.  Bold and brave… I like it.

While I agree with most of the extremely bold plans the President addressed, I’m not sure if that’s the best way to go about it.  Obama was bipartisan last night… but that is exactly what a President is supposed to be.  Sure he’s labeled as a democrat… but to really accomplish anything for the executive office in this county, you have to deal from the center.

Either way, my confidence in our country increased.  I saw a poll that noted a 24 % increase in confidence among citizens.  That’s what we need.  Instead of scrutiny, we need support.  Instead of contradiction, we need compromise.

Keep on keeping on.

It’s all about the U!

Peace.
